Spinning in the Cocoon of Light
A Mystical Turkey Journey:

$3200 US (plus airfare from North America, Australia or Europe) featuring 3 days in Istanbul, a week of touring: Ankara, Cappadocia, Konya, Pamukkale, Fetiye, Ephesus, Samos, & Assos . We will share daily readings & attunements to the spirit & teachings of Jelaluddin Rumi, including Dervish performances & visits to shrines. We will be treated to divine appetizers in folkloric & belly-dance plus Rumi readings with Joseph-Mark. This tour is limited to 12 participants. Our tour host Mythic Travel can help with air travel from America. We may be able to offer an optional excursion to Urfa (Edessa) to visit sites associated with the biblical patriarch Abraham, the mystic Gurdjieff and Mary Magdaleine. (Cost for this excursion will be approximately $500.)
Our itinerary includes:
Day 1: Early evening flight to Turkey from Toronto//NYC./ London
Day 2: Mid afternoon arrival in Istanbul. Transfer to our hotel in Sultan Ahmet. Welcome Dinner (D) & orientation seminar, plus an introductory tour of a few special carpet shops and the spice market .
Day 3: Whirlwind tour to familiarize ourselves with the architectural marvels of Istanbul: Topkapi palace, the Blue Mosque, Haghia Sofia. We will take the sunset cruise of the Bospherus this evening and spend some time with the dervishes tonight !
Day 4: We will devote this day to visiting Grand Covered Bazaar. When we have gathered all the treasures we can, we will caravan back to our hotel before soaking away in one of the finer hameems, or Turkish baths. Those who revive may wish to take in an Oriental show tonight or some Anatolian folklore over dinner.
Day 5: Morning flight to Ankara. Visits to the Ankara Museum & the Bektashi sufi shrine en route to Cappadocia. Overnight at a fabulous cave hotel in Goreme.
Day 6: A day of touring through Cappadocia with visits to the underground city of Kaymakli , the open air museums of Zelve and Goreme. We will be treated to an evening folkloric dance and music performance tonight. (B ,D )
Day 7: We will tour some of the beautiful nature preserves in Cappadocia today, including a mystical walk through the Ilhara Valley. We will enjoy a Whirling Dervish sema this evening in Avanos. Overnight at Goreme.
Day 8: We drive to Konya via a Keravansaray with visits to the the Dervish Brothers Carpet Shop before our powerful meditation at Rumi's tomb. We travel on to Pumakele in the afternoon with a dinner stop en route. Overnight in Pummakale.(B, D)
Day 9: We visit the red springs and the magnificent calcified falls at Pamukkale with its magical white terraces today. We will be staying at a world class health resort that has a fabulous series of thermal pools of its own. We will have a seminar here on hot stone treatments and aromatherapy.Overnight at Pamukkale. Day 10: Morning drive to Hierapolis and Aphrodisias to see the the theatre, the temple of Apollo, and visit the thermal baths. After lunch we continue on to either Dalyan or Fetiye for dinner and an evening of Turkish saz music. Overnight in Fetiye.
Day 11: We board our Turkish sailboat or gulet ( weather permitting ) for two relaxing days of explorations along the charming coves of the turqoise coast. We will stop off to visit sea caves, secluded villages and perhaps an island that is known as a sanctuary for storks. We will be sleeping and dreaming aboard the Gulet under the stars.
Day 12: We disembark the gulet today and drive to Selcuk to pay a visit to the House of Virgin Mary. We will walk through the magnificent ruins of the ancient city of Ephesus this afternoon and pay homage to the goddess Aphrodite tonight in the trendy section of Kusadasi. Dinner and overnight at the Keravansarai in Kusadasi. (B, D)
Day 13: We travel by ferry to the Greek island of Samos where we will be free to explore much of the day in the charming village of Pythagoria. Joseph-Mark will offer a seminar on the teachings of Pythagoras over dinner tonight. Overnight in Samos.
Day 14: We will spend this day on Samos with an optional daytrip to Patmos. Overnight in Samos or we return to Kusadasi at sunset. (B,D).
Day 15: Morning departure for the village of Assos overlooking the Gulf of Edrimit. En route we will choreograph a ceremony at the Asclepion in Pergamon and try out an experiment in dream incubation. We will arrive in Assos in time for an afternoon swim in the Aegean sea before taking dinner in the village. Overnight in a charming pension in Assos. (B,D)
Day 16: We depart early this morning for the airport at Izmir for our flight to Istanbul and our return flight to North America.
